The World Nomad Games, a cultural and athletic event celebrating traditional nomadic sports, are currently underway in Kyrgyzstan. Athletes from 104 nations are participating in the games, highlighting sports popular among the Turkic peoples of Central Asia. The events, which conclude on Sunday, are taking place at the venue in Kyrchyn Gorge, located around 314 kilometers east of Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
Participants were seen parading with golden eagles for a competition, showing their strong connection to traditional hunting practices. Another striking event involved riders from Kazakhstan engaging in the traditional equestrian discipline of “tyiyn enmei,” where they display their agility by picking up coins or a pouch while riding at high speeds.
Moreover, horse riders from Uzbekistan and Russia showcased their skills in the Central Asian sports of “kok-boru” or “buzkashi,” where mounted players compete by tossing the carcass of a headless goat into a designated area to earn points. Archery competitions also took place, with participants aiming arrows skillfully during the event.
Aside from the intense competitions, spectators had the opportunity to enjoy local cuisine and witness various craftsmanship demonstrations. Kyrgyz women were observed demonstrating their artisanal skills by spooling wool, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region during the games.
