An Israeli airstrike in the central Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child, as reported by health officials on Sunday. Medics in Gaza stated that the strike near a bakery in Deir al-Balah claimed the lives of Tayyem Hamdan, aged 3, and Hussam Nusair, along with causing injuries to several others.
The Israeli military confirmed the attack, asserting that it targeted and eliminated a Hamas militant, Nusair, who was allegedly involved in orchestrating attacks against Israeli personnel and civilians. Hamas refrained from immediate comments on the military’s claims.
Although a U.S.-supported ceasefire last October brought a pause to major conflicts in the region, Israeli military strikes have persisted, citing the need to prevent Hamas and other Gaza militants from carrying out attacks. Hamas has criticized Israel for breaching the ceasefire and hindering the implementation of a broader peace initiative led by U.S. President Donald Trump, which includes Israeli withdrawals and Hamas disarmament.
According to health officials in Gaza, over 1,300 Palestinians have lost their lives since the ceasefire was established last October, while the Israeli military reports four casualties among their soldiers.
