“Teen’s Hotdog Stand Raises $21K for Make-A-Wish”

Must read

A Cape Breton teenager managed to raise $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada through the operation of a simple hotdog stand and generous donations. Jake Campbell, 13, along with his family, successfully sold hotdogs over the weekend, with supplies contributed by No Frills and Wonder Bread. Last year, they raised $3,000 through a similar initiative, motivating Campbell to aim for a higher target this year, which they surpassed.

The hotdog stand was set up in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S., where not only hotdog sales but also additional cash donations were received. Hollie Quick, a senior development officer for Make-A-Wish Canada in the Nova Scotia chapter, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the Sydney community.

Last year, Campbell was recognized with an award in memory of a wish child who had passed away, inspiring him to expand his efforts this year. Quick highlighted that the funds raised by the Campbells will be instrumental in fulfilling the wishes of the 81 children on the foundation’s list in Nova Scotia. These wishes range from creating accessible outdoor spaces at home to family trips.

Campbell emphasized the importance of supporting Make-A-Wish Canada, as it provides not only for the children but also for their families during challenging times. Looking forward, Campbell expressed ambitious plans for next year’s fundraising efforts.
