The Canadian women’s basketball team wrapped up the group stage of the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament with a 70-64 victory against Mexico on Thursday night in Guadalajara. Yvonne Ejim led the team with 19 points, contributing to Canada’s 3-0 record. Syla Swords also played a significant role with 17 points.
Mexico’s Mariana Valenzuela scored 17 points for her team during the match. Looking ahead, Canada is scheduled to face New Zealand in the semifinals on Saturday, while the host team will compete against Brazil. The tournament’s final match is set for Sunday.
The champion of the tournament will secure a place in one of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments slated for February 2028.
