An approaching deadline is looming for individuals who have not yet received their Winter Fuel Payment.
The Winter Fuel Payment, provided by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), is a benefit worth up to £300 for individuals over state pension age. Those earning above £35,000 annually are required to repay it through the tax system.
While most people typically receive their Winter Fuel Payment in November or December, if you have not received it by January 28, 2026, you should reach out to the Winter Fuel Payment Centre.
To inquire about your payment, you can contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre either by phone at 0800 731 0160 or via post at Winter Fuel Payment Centre, Mail Handling Site A, Wolverhampton, WV98 1LR.
The Winter Fuel Payment eligibility criteria state that individuals born before September 22, 1959, who claimed specific benefits in the qualifying week of September 15 to 21, 2025, should have received their payment automatically.
If you did not claim any of the specified benefits, you must make a claim by contacting the Winter Fuel Payment Centre by post or phone before March 31, 2026. Certain circumstances, such as being in hospital for the entire qualifying week or being in prison, may make you ineligible for the payment.
In Scotland, the Winter Fuel Payment has been replaced with the Pension Age Winter Heating Payment, ranging from £101.70 to £305.10.
