A deadly missile strike carried out by Russia claimed the lives of 10 individuals in a village located in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, as confirmed by Ukrainian officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, stating that it targeted a bustling area in Pechenihy, Kharkiv region, with vital establishments like a post office and stores, within a residential setting.
The aftermath of the strike was captured in images shared by Zelenskyy, showing a demolished building, burning cars, and emergency responders aiding injured individuals. At least 17 people sustained injuries during the assault, according to Oleh Syniehubov, the governor of the affected region.
While Russia remained silent on the incident, the attack caused extensive damage to 10 private buildings, a café, a post office, a store, and numerous vehicles in the village, as reported by Syniehubov. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office indicated that Russia utilized two small Banderol cruise missiles in the attack, based on initial findings.
On a retaliatory note, Ukraine initiated a large-scale drone offensive targeting Moscow and its surroundings with 620 drones, marking one of Kyiv’s significant air assaults on the region. Moscow reported downing 180 drones over the area, with Mayor Sergei Sobyanin mentioning ongoing emergency response efforts at crash sites.
The drone strikes impacted various facilities near Moscow, including a warehouse of Russian e-commerce firm Wildberries. In addition, several regions under Russian control, such as Crimea, experienced substantial attacks from Ukrainian drones. Power disruptions were reported in the Crimean peninsula, affecting multiple settlements due to the attacks.
Amidst these developments, Russia issued a warning to Britain regarding its alleged supply of drones to Ukraine for use in attacks on Russian territory. The Russian embassy in London expressed concerns over Britain’s involvement in the conflict, emphasizing potential repercussions for such actions.
Britain’s Defense Ministry refrained from confirming the use of British drones in the attacks, emphasizing its support for Ukraine in countering the Russian invasion. Previously, Britain had pledged to provide 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of 2026 as part of a substantial funding package.
