“Keep Your Home Warm Without Heating with This Clever Oven Trick”

Must read

An energy expert from British Gas has shared a clever tip to keep your home warm without using your central heating. According to smart energy engineer Jessica Rawstron, you can maximize the residual heat from your oven by leaving the door open after cooking.

Rawstron suggested, “Rather than closing the oven door after taking out your meal, why not leave it open to allow the heat to slowly warm up your kitchen? This simple trick can help maintain a cozy environment while you enjoy your meal, just remember to keep children and pets away from the oven.”

In addition to this tip, British Gas has also recommended various winter preparation measures, such as sealing gaps around windows and doors to prevent draughts. It’s essential to ensure that your radiators are functioning efficiently by regularly bleeding them and keeping up with your annual boiler service.

As parts of the UK face yellow warnings for snow and ice due to plummeting temperatures, many households are likely to rely on their heating systems. Energy bills have recently increased, with the average household paying around £1,758 per year for gas and electricity under the price cap regulations. While the price cap sets limits on unit rates and standing charges, the total bill still depends on individual energy consumption.

For those on pre-payment meters, the price cap has risen to £1,711 annually, and for those paying upon receipt of the bill, it now stands at £1,894 per year. The price cap is reviewed every three months, with the next update scheduled for April 2026.
