Must read

Renowned rock singer Sass Jordan, who hailed from Montreal and had a music career spanning close to four decades, passed away at the age of 65. The news was confirmed by family spokesperson Eric Alper, who mentioned that Jordan was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her death. The cause of her passing has not been disclosed.

Described as a unique force of nature and a beacon of light and joy, Jordan’s musical journey began with the release of her debut album, “Tell Somebody,” in 1988. The following year, she clinched the Juno Award for most promising female vocalist. Her second album, “Racine,” released in 1992, featured hits such as “Make You a Believer.”

Throughout her career, Jordan received multiple Juno Award nominations for best female vocalist and was a fixture as a judge on all six seasons of “Canadian Idol.” Born on December 23, 1960, in Birmingham, England, Jordan was raised in Montreal.

Geoff Kulawick, the former president of Stony Plain Records, lauded Jordan as a “bold, beautiful, and brave” artist. Jordan collaborated with her husband Derek Sharp on her 2020 album, “Rebel Moon Blues,” and her 2022 release, “Bitches Blues,” while signed with Stony Plains.

Derek Downham, a Canadian producer and songwriter, fondly recalled his friendship with Jordan, emphasizing her infectious laughter and radiant personality. Jordan’s presence as one of the few women in rock at the beginning of her career paved the way for other female artists in a predominantly male-dominated industry.

Downham expressed admiration for Jordan’s trailblazing spirit and hoped that her legacy would inspire aspiring performers to lead with love and passion in their craft.
