A teenager was assaulted by a crocodile while fishing with companions. The 14-year-old, part of a trio who were not locals, was fishing in shallow waters when the incident occurred. Despite being subjected to a ‘death roll’ by the crocodile, he survived. The boy sustained injuries to his leg and abdomen, receiving initial treatment at a nearby hotel before being airlifted to Cairns Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
The attack occurred 100km north of Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia. A Queensland Ambulance Service representative mentioned that a male teenager with wounds was transported to Cairns Hospital following the crocodile attack. This incident follows another tragic event where a tourist was fatally attacked by a crocodile at a game reserve in South Africa. The victim, a 56-year-old man, ignored warning signs and was dragged into the river by a 12-foot crocodile. Despite efforts to rescue him, he disappeared under the water and was later found deceased.
Eyewitnesses described the horrifying scene, emphasizing the inability to intervene due to the crocodile’s strength. The victim, from Richards Bay, South Africa, was staying at the reserve with his family. The reserve offers live feeding experiences with crocodiles, but it is unclear if this activity was operational during the attack.
