A 14-year-old girl, Kylie Toberman, was tragically found deceased in a motorhome located behind her residence in Vandalia, Illinois, shortly after being reported missing. Kylie went missing around 9 pm on a Thursday and was reported missing at 6:30 am the following day, wearing a red sweatshirt and black leggings. Her lifeless body was discovered at approximately 2:20 pm that same day, with the cause of death still under investigation.
Kylie had been residing with her adoptive mother and two sisters, while her step-uncle, Arnold B Rivera Jr, aged 43, lived in the motorhome where her body was found, as claimed by Kylie’s biological mother, Megan Zeller. The Fayette County Emergency Management Agency reported that the Vandalia Police Department had been searching for Rivera Jr, eventually locating and taking him into custody.
Rivera Jr faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated sexual assault, and concealing a homicide, as per jail records. Previous reports indicated that he had faced charges in 2000 related to burglary and criminal sexual abuse of a child between the ages of 9 and 16. Kylie’s mother, Megan Zeller, had made heartfelt pleas for help in finding her daughter before sadly confirming her passing online.
Kylie was known for her academic achievements and involvement in sports, including wrestling at Vandalia Junior High School. The school community, along with the Vandal Wrestling Takedown Club, expressed deep sorrow at the loss of Kylie. The local high school also acknowledged the passing of a student but refrained from naming her, respecting the ongoing law enforcement investigation.
In response to the tragic event, school officials ensured that support services would be available for students and staff affected by the loss. The community came together to offer condolences and support to Kylie’s family during this challenging time as investigations by the Illinois State Police continue.
