Several individuals at the US military installation in Maryland housing Air Force One have become unwell following the receipt of a suspicious package, as per multiple media outlets.
An edifice at Joint Base Andrews was cleared out after someone exposed the package and discovered a white substance along with political materials, sources told CNN.
First responders quickly arrived at the scene, confirming no immediate danger. However, base authorities have initiated an investigation, leading to a lockdown as a precautionary measure.
The symptoms experienced by the affected individuals remain undisclosed. The delivery of the package coincided with a visit from Donald Trump to the base.
Frequently, the US president commutes via Marine One from The White House to this military facility before boarding Air Force One for international journeys.
The installation is also home to the C-130 Hercules cargo planes and the KC-135R Stratotanker refueling aircraft.
