“Driver Fined for Middle Lane Hogging on M6 Highway”

Must read

A motorist was stopped by authorities and issued a citation for violating a rule they were likely not aware of while driving on the M6 highway. The surprised driver was pulled over in Warwickshire and given the ticket after being warned by police, who noted an increasing number of individuals driving similarly on the road. The police reported that the driver was moving too slowly at speeds between 55mph and 60mph, and was also hogging the middle lane.

Warwickshire Police described the behavior as “poor driving standards” and expressed concern over the growing trend of drivers unaware of the risks it creates. In a statement on Facebook, they mentioned that officers observed a driver on the M6 Northbound in the middle lane traveling at 55-60mph without any slower traffic or obstacles in the adjacent lane.

The driver was escorted off the highway and fined for failing to demonstrate reasonable consideration for other road users. It is probable that the driver will be required to attend a driver improvement course, which will incur a cost. The police highlighted the danger posed by such driving habits, emphasizing that overtaking lanes should be used appropriately to prevent unnecessary lane changes and ensure safe driving practices.

While speed limits are not targets or minimum requirements, it is considered substandard driving to occupy an overtaking lane at speeds significantly below the limit when there is no slower traffic or obstacles present. The police advised drivers to stay in the left lanes unless overtaking or avoiding hazards to avoid penalties such as license points and fines.
