“JFK’s Grandson Jack Schlossberg Announces Congress Run”

Must read

John F. Kennedy’s sole grandson has affirmed his commitment to upholding the family’s political legacy by announcing his candidacy for Congress.

Jack Schlossberg, son of Caroline Kennedy, disclosed his intentions to run for the seat currently held by long-time Democrat Jerrold Nadler in New York City’s 12th district. Nadler, 78, is stepping down after serving for 34 years. Schlossberg, 32, known for his active presence on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, where he often criticizes Donald Trump and conservative politics, aims to engage with younger voters in today’s media landscape.

In an interview with The New York Times, Schlossberg emphasized the importance of connecting with young voters in the current media environment and stressed the need for politicians who understand policy and can effectively communicate through new media channels.

With a background in Congress and the State Department, Schlossberg, a Harvard-educated Yale alumnus, expressed his pride in continuing the Kennedy family’s tradition of public service. Inspired by President Kennedy and his uncle Ted Kennedy, who had a lengthy Senate career, Schlossberg acknowledges his family’s influence on his values.

Despite facing criticism for his outspoken online persona and public disagreements, notably with his relative Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who serves as Trump’s health secretary, Schlossberg believes that his viral moments raise political awareness among voters who may otherwise be disengaged.

Caroline Kennedy commended her son’s bravery in pursuing political involvement, even when his methods spark controversy. Presenting himself as a non-establishment Democrat, Schlossberg draws inspiration from grassroots successes like Zohran Mamdani, the new mayor of New York. He advocates for the Democratic Party to reclaim its identity as the voice of artists, innovators, and counterculture while opposing what he sees as fear-driven politics from the Trump era.

The competition for Nadler’s seat is expected to be intense, with several candidates from New York’s political circles entering the race. However, the Kennedy name still holds weight and nostalgia for many voters, symbolizing a family that played a significant role in shaping American liberalism in the 20th century.

Schlossberg aims to revive the spirit of challenging the status quo within the Democratic Party, emphasizing the importance of returning to its roots.
