Punters at the newly opened Wetherspoons pub in Spain may find themselves paying higher prices compared to their local branches. Despite still offering reasonable value, the dishes and drinks at the Spanish location tend to be priced above those at the chain’s standard high street pubs.
The management explains that operating pubs in airports comes with higher costs, leading to the increased prices. They highlight that the pricing at the Spanish pub aligns with what customers would find at Wetherspoons’ locations in airports and railway stations across the UK.
For instance, a substantial breakfast in Spain costs 10.25 euros (£8.84), while the same meal averages at £5.09 in the UK. To assess the differences, the Mirror conducted a price comparison between the Alicante pub and Wetherspoons’ Solihull branch in the West Midlands, as well as Gatwick Airport.
Adding complexity, some items vary in terms of portion size and ingredients. Examples include Margherita pizza, all-day brunch, classic burger, chicken, eggs, and beans, pint of Stella Artois, Asahi beer, pint of Greene King Abbot Ale, Guinness 0.0, and Coca Cola or Pepsi (398ml).
